ABOUT SCHOOL

Sang Senior Secondary School is one of the oldest institution in East Sikkim established in 1880. It is a Co-ed school affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The School has always remained steadfast in creating strong foundations, good health and hygiene practices for children from pre-primary to secondary. To improve the nutritional status of children and improve enrollment, attendance and retention rates, the School serves fresh hot cooked Mid-Day meal for them.

Within the school building there is a well stocked library room, computer class room, physics laboratory, biology laboratory, chemistry laboratory and about 18 classrooms and a spacious auditorium. The school also provides safe and adequate drinking water facilities to all children with an emphasis on hand washing etiquette and separate toilets for boys and girls. Sanitary Napkin Machines and Incinerator has also been installed with smoke control units in toilet for girls.

This school has more than 50 teachers including Principal and about 10 non-teaching staff. There are about 171 boys and 146 girls altogether with 317 enrollment-excluding class XI.

With the introduction of the three language policy under the National Education Policy 2020, as of now, the School provides Bhutia, Nepali, Lepcha and Limbu as options for the second language and seven more would be added to the list as part of the curriculum from the next academic session. 

The medium of teaching is English. The streams at higher classes are Bioscience, Commerce and Humanities. Where as there are optional Vocational streams like Tourism and Food Production. Government provides free education to the lower class children with free books, school bags, rain coats, school dresses and lunch during lunch break.

As per the guideline issued by MHRD and Board, the school has installed CCTV within the premises to ensure complete Safety and Security.

Parent Teacher meeting are also organised twice a year to check the academic progress of students.

Co-scholastic Activities.

To inculcate the spirit of healthy competition among the students and to acknowledge their talents, various inter-house and inter-class activities are carried on at regular intervals throughout the year.

Some such activities are Calligraphy, debate, Recitation, Creative Writings, paintings, slogan writing, Spell Bee competitions, Maths, Science and General Knowledge Quiz, Dance, Yoga, Gardening, Organic farming, Culinary skills, Singing, Music (vocal/instrumental), Craft etc.

Sporting Activities

At Sang Sr. Sec. School, we lay a strong emphasis on sports and physical development. Football is the most popular sport and every boy and girl actively participate for the competition. Cricket, Volleyball, badminton, throw ball are other important games played on regular basis. Activities like Marathons, races, Long Jump, Short Put etc. are all a part of Athletics at Sang school

YOGA

Keeping the spirit of International Yoga Day alive every year our School Staff & Students celebrate Yoga day on 21st June. In this tech swayed generation, the School encourage the students to integrate Yoga in their routine for a health body, mind and spirit. The Yoga asanas below are a proof that the students have imbibed yoga practices in their lives.

NSS

The NSS unit of Sang Sr. Sec. School has laid down an excellent platform for inculcating team sprit, leadership qualities and self discipline. The teacher-student team at Sang SSS has notched up an impressive performance by committing itself towards the welfare of society by organising regular activities and programmes to create awareness for a cleaner, greener and sustainable environment by disposing and recycling plastic responsibly. The NSS team has also taken keen responsibility in organising orientation, personality development, blood donation camp, plantation programmes, Swachchha Bharat Abhiyaan (Cleanliness drive and field visits), health awareness, Green Walk, Rallies, Marathon, speech, debate, painting, essay competition and Slogan Writing.

SCHOOL CLUBS

Club activities help students develop sense of unity and teamwork. The school encourage students to participate in various activities and widen their horizon for their all round development. The school has following clubs:-

ECO and YOUTH CLUB

Objectives:

Sensitizing our young students to environment related issues is the main purpose of the School's Eco Club.

Club Activities:

  • Tree plantation drives.

  • Organizing rallies like "Say no to Poly Bags", 'Say no to Crackers', 'Save Water,' 'Save energy' and 'Green and Clean State.

  • Regular maintenance of compost pits and green house in the school premises.

  • Participation of Students in various school events.

  • Participation in community activities related to ecology.

School Herbal Garden by Eco Club :-

This initiative has been an exciting and fun-filled learning activity for students to understand about the importance of various herbal plants indigenous to Sikkim. Through hands on activities in school the students were able to learn about the traditional uses of medicinal plants and its purpose.

RED RIBBON CLUB
 

RRC members of Sang Sr. Sec. School promotes access to information on the control and prevention of HIV & AIDS.

the activities organized by the school includes awareness campaigns like rallies and outreach activities like donating blood to all the needy.

SAATHI

SAATHI Club ( Sikkim Against Addiction Towards Healthy India) started in Sang Sr. Sec. School from the year 2016 to curb the issue of substance abuse in the school with the help of peer-to-peer counselling. To support this noble initiative students form classes IX - XII actively participated in offsite training camp, counsellor and volunteer training, door to door campaign and community outreach programme. 

NCC

NCC is the Indian military cadet corps wing of the Indian armed forces. Sang Sr. Sec. School has welcomed this initiative in the year 2019 which offers training to the students. It inculcates a sense of team work, leadership skills and self discipline at an early age. Also it's a good way to inspire school boys for serving in Indian armed forces or government.

COLOR STROKE 

In order to provide an open learning environment for students, Sang Sr. Sec. School has formed a 'Color Stroke' group with a purpose to give young children every opportunity to gain self-confidence, creative thinking and a sense of self worth that will help in the positive development of their personality.

STUDENT POLICE CADETS

Students Police Cadet is a school based initiative started in the year 2019 at Sang Sr. Sec. School. There are 40 members who have actively volunteered for the same. This initiative helps the students inculcate aspects of public safety, discipline, patience, social harmony, respect for senior citizens, traffic sense and a corruption-free environment. Two trained teachers are acting as Community Police Officer and Additional Community Police officer respectively for facilitating SPC training.

CHESS CLUB

To motivate the students to improve academic skills such as concentration, reasoning, creativity, and problem solving Sang Sr. Sec. School has initiated Chess Club from last year.

Strictly adhering to be guideline issued by MHRD and Board, Sang Sr. Sec. School has installed CCTV within the premises to ensure complete Safety and Security of students.

GREEN SCHOOL PROGRAMME

The Green School Programme (GSP) started in Sang Sr. Sec. School in the year 2016. It is an environment audit programme in which teachers and students perform rigorous environment audits of water, air, land, energy, waste and food resources within the school premise. The school aims to build up an environmentally aware, active and skilled community of teachers, students and parents. The school also carry out comprehensive evaluation to monitor the progress of such programmes in schools.
